Acupuncture Therapy
At Lavender Retreat, we offer professional acupuncture services designed to promote healing, balance, and overall well-being. Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese therapy that involves the insertion of thin, sterile needles into specific points on the body to stimulate energy flow, or "Qi." This holistic approach helps to restore harmony within the body, relieve pain, reduce stress, and address a variety of physical and emotional health concerns.
Our experienced acupuncturists work closely with you to develop a personalized treatment plan that addresses your unique needs. Whether you're seeking relief from chronic pain, improving your sleep, boosting energy levels, managing stress, or supporting overall wellness, acupuncture can be a powerful tool for achieving balance and optimal health.
Our serene and nurturing environment is designed to help you relax and fully benefit from your acupuncture treatments. We are committed to your health journey and provide a holistic approach to healing that complements your lifestyle.

Welcome to Lavender Retreat! If you're new to acupuncture, you might have some questions. We’re here to help you feel comfortable and informed about your first appointment.
What to Expect on Your First Visit
Your first acupuncture session will typically last about 60 to 90 minutes. This includes a 15–25-minute consultation where we’ll review your medical history. This helps the acupuncturist create a customized treatment plan tailored to your needs, ensuring you have a positive experience and effective results.
Acupuncture is a relaxing and calming treatment. The needles are very fine—about the width of a hair—and most of the time, you won’t feel much. In some areas, you may experience a brief, small pinch that fades quickly.
At Lavender Retreat, we’re dedicated to helping you live a balanced and healthy life. After your session, we’ll work with you to create a holistic wellness plan designed just for you.
What Should I Wear to My Appointment?
There’s no need for special clothing. You may need to remove some clothing to allow access to acupuncture points on your body. Please wear something comfortable that allows easy access to your arms, legs, or back. We also ask that you avoid wearing heavy perfumes or colognes, as some clients may be sensitive to fragrances.
Should I Eat Before My Appointment?
Yes! It’s best to come with a light meal in your stomach. If you’re too hungry, you might feel dizzy or lightheaded during your session. A small snack before your visit will help. We also recommend avoiding caffeine right before your appointment, as it can make it harder to relax and may affect your treatment.
What Symptoms Can Acupuncture Help With?
Acupuncture has been shown to be effective for a wide range of issues, including:
Pain relief (chronic or acute)
Insomnia
Stress, anxiety, and depression
Digestive issues
Fertility support
Muscle and nervous system disorders
Addiction recovery…and much more!
Your acupuncturist will work with you to address your specific health concerns.
When Should I Get Acupuncture for an Injury?
If you’ve sustained a muscle or joint injury, the sooner you come in for treatment, the better. Acupuncture and herbal medicine can be very effective in the early stages of healing. However, acupuncture is also helpful for chronic injuries, so it can support you at any stage of the healing process.
Can Children Receive Acupuncture?
Yes, children of all ages can benefit from acupuncture! We welcome young patients and require that all minors be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian with a signed consent form.
Do We Offer Dry Needling?
Dry needling, often used by physical therapists, involves deeper, wider needles aimed at releasing muscle trigger points. We don’t practice dry needling, but we do offer a lighter version using fine, short needles to target trigger points and relieve muscle tension. Along with acupuncture, we also offer cupping and herbal medicine for pain relief.
What is Cupping?
Cupping is a therapy where glass or plastic cups are placed on the skin and suctioned to help promote blood flow.
This can relieve muscle tension, improve circulation, and reduce inflammation. Cupping is often used for back and shoulder discomfort, but it can be applied to other areas as well.
Do You Take Insurance?
We accept the following insurance plans:
CareFirst/BlueCross
Aetna
UnitedHealthcare/Optum
We can check your insurance coverage and let you know what your plan covers for acupuncture. This process may take a few days. If your insurance plan offers reimbursement, we’ll provide you with the necessary paperwork, and you can pay at the time of service.
If you’re out-of-network, you’ll be considered a self-pay patient, but we can submit claims on your behalf for reimbursement.
Do You Accept HSA/FSA Cards?
Yes, acupuncture is a covered service under both HSA and FSA plans. You can use these funds to pay for your treatments.
What is Your Cancellation Policy?
We have a 24-hour cancellation policy. Since we reserve your appointment exclusively for you, we ask that you provide at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. If you miss your appointment without notice, you’ll be charged for the session and the amount is $60.
Group Sessions at Lavender Retreat
We offer group acupuncture sessions! Group sessions are available with a minimum of 6 people. These can be a great way for teams, families, or friends to experience acupuncture together. To book a group session, please contact Jaime Bohl at 703-627-8098.
